(A STUDY ON THE KERJA TAHUN EVENT OF THE KARO TRIBE IN THE BANGKA BELITUNG ISLANDS PROVINCE IN 2019)

ABSTRACT

 

This research discusses cultural exhibitions and political communication (a study on the Kerja Tahun event of the Karo in Bangka Belitung Islands Province in 2019). Merdang Merdem, or Kerja Tahun, is an annual festival conducted by the Karo Tribe to express gratitude for the accomplishments in agriculture, from the early stages of rice planting to the periodeo of rice growth and finally the harvest. This research describes how the consolidation process through political communication at the Kerja Tahun event of the Karo Tribe suported Batak’s candidates for regional legislative members (DPRD) in the Bangka Belitung islands Province. This research utilizes Berlo’a (1960) theory of empaty and hemofily in the context of political communications. This study employed a descriptive-qualitatif methhodology, utilizing in-depth interviews as the primary data collection technique.

The findings indicated that’s Karo legislative candidates used a variety of political consolidation strategies to secure support during the Kerja Tahun selebration of the Karo Tribe in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The political communication consolidation effors includet conducting exclusive meeting with volunters from the Karo community, engaging in socialization and disccusions with the Karo Community, seeking prayers, support, and aspiration, and organizing meetings with the sulang community of Silima, a subgroup of the Karo Tribe. Political consolidation is useful for strengthening the Karo community’s socio-cultural communication in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
